What Is Up With Home Beer Brewing?

If you drink enough different kinds of beers, as opposed to an excess of one kind of beer, then you begin to develop a taste for beer and then you all of a sudden start to search for a particular taste of beer that you would like to try because your experience with beer tells you that a certain taste may be good in beer.

So you begin your quest and you start to taste every micro brewed beer and foreign beer you can get your hands on and aside from getting very drunk you also start to realize that the taste you are searching for just may not be out there and that if you are looking for a specific taste that is out there then that may be an opportunity to get into Beer Brewing on your own and fill what you see as an opportunity in the Beer Brewing market.  So you set out to learn the art of Beer Brewing and since Beer Brewing is something you are probably allowed to do in your home you get yourself a starter kit and your quest for that perfect tasting beer begins.

You can usually get a Beer Brewing starter kit anywhere and I have even seen them sold in a local supermarket in the same aisle as the soda pop and grape juice.  I always wondered why it was not near the beer aisle but if you can put aside some bad planning on the part of your local vendor you can invest in a Beer Brewing starter kit for about $70 or so and find yourself diving into the world of being a master beer brewer.

It does not take long to realize why it takes years to learn how to brew just the most basic of beers and why it can be so difficult to brew a beer with any special kind of taste.  You can most certainly learn Beer Brewing on your own but you are going to need to develop the same respect for the ingredients and the equipment that master beer brewers use.

It Really Is All About The Whole Picture

When you are learning about Beer Brewing one of the first things any book, or brewer, will tell you is that if you want to brew the same tasting beer then consistency is extremely important and that consistency is not just in the ingredients but it is also in how you use and maintain your equipment as well.  Beer has to ferment and anything added to the fermentation process, including cleaners or extra water from maintaining the equipment, can definitely affect how your beer tastes.

So good luck with your own beer and remember to write down every recipe you try because even the slightest change in a single ingredient can change everything.  Have fun and remember that you don’t have to drink everything you brew.

Beer boot

Many of you may be asking what exactly a beer boot is. What’s the history behind them?
Beer boots or Bierstiefeln in German have over a century of history and culture behind them. It is commonly believed that a general promised his troops to drink beer from his boot if they were successful in battle. When the troops prevailed, the general had a glass maker fashion a boot from glass to fulfill his promise without tasting his own feet and to avoid spoiling the beer in his leather boot. Since then, soldiers have enjoyed toasting to their victories with a beer boot. At gatherings in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, beer boots are often passed among the guests for a festive drinking challenge. Since the movie Beer Fest appeared in 2006, Beer Boots have become increasingly popular in the United States. Originally most commonly seen in the German Restaurant and Bier Garten (Beer Garden) scene in the US, they have become a party essential at college campuses across the nation. Beer boots are made of either manufactured pressed glass or mouth blown glasses by skilled artisans in form of a boot. They come in a wide array of sizes, and we carry the largest variety. For drinking groups in particular, the larger beer boots, especially the two liter, are the favored option.

When drinking in a group, the boot is passed around in a circle and a game is played to determine who pays for the next beer. The second to last person to drink is the loser and has to purchase the next beer. Therefore, there are two strategies to the game. One either tries to finish the boot in one drink without it spilling any, or one drinks as little ones as possible and hopes that the next person in line doesn’t try to drink the boot empty.

The shape of the boot makes drinking more difficult. As you drink down the beer and tilt the boot backwards at an angle, an air pocket fills in the toe and has to be cautiously released. The trick to drinking from the boot is to hold the boot so that the toe is pointed either to your left or right, preventing an air bubble from building up in the toe.

As Restaurant you can profit from offering beer in beer boots to your guests:

* Guests drink higher quantity of beer, resulting in higher profits.
* Guests entertain and amuse themselves.
* Because of the larger quantity of beer, they have to be refilled less and result in less work

As a restaurant or bar purchaser, before you buy beer boot glasses, you should try out whether they fit appropriately under your beer tap for filling. If necessary you can fill a beer jug and transfer the beer into the boot; however, the some head is lost in the transfer process.

Beer boot glasses are inherently more expensive than other glasses, because of their labor intensive mouth blown production process, their high demand, and the fact that they are imported from Europe.

Beer Boots are very popular pieces of collecting breweriana and make the perfect gift for college students, your everyday beer fan and are increasingly popular as groomsman gifts for weddings.

Historical Significance of Beer

The popularity of beer is already well documented. However, very little is known about the history and significance of this great drink. Some people date the use of beer as early as 6th millennium. Certain references to the drink can be found in the documented history of ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. Beer is produced by fermentation of sugars derived from starch-based material. Going by this logic, it seemed pretty simple to produce beer by fermenting any substance containing carbohydrates.

The ancient references notwithstanding, the commercial manufacture of beer started only during the industrial revolution, and by the end of 19th Century, the home production of beer virtually came to an end. And with the rapid developments in science and technology, newer machines were being manufactured, like hydrometers and thermometers, to aid the brewers in the production of different varieties of beer. In the modern world, beer is manufactured using varied starch sources, like malted barley, yeast, corn, rice, sugar, millet, sorghum, cassava, potato, agave etc.

The significance of beer in the modern society can be gauged from the fact that hardly any social gathering is complete without serving beer as a beverage. Of course, it is a favorite drink in pubs, discotheques, casinos, and other eating and entertainment joints. Of late, beer festivals have captured the imagination of people all across the globe. Germany is the first country that comes to mind, which holds Oktoberfest, the largest beer festival in the world. UK has its own annual Great British Beer Festival held in London during August. Similar beer festivals are popular in smaller countries, like Estonia, Norway, Hong Kong, Vietnam, New Zealand, besides some bigger countries, like US, Canada, Australia, Brazil, and Argentina.

Undoubtedly, the commercial value of beer has skyrocketed in almost every part of the globe mainly because of its universal acceptance as a less-alcoholic beverage. It is a widely held, though unfounded, belief that beer is responsible for younger generation’s tilt towards harmful intoxicating drugs. However, facts do not support this belief. On the contrary, medical experts opine that beer can benefit heart if taken in moderation.

And if you could lay your hands on some free beer, would you be able to turn down this amazing offer? YES! It’s possible to get yourself FREE beer. Just watch out for the latest doles offered by several companies, and relish the opportunities that present themselves!
